Mission

The trusted voice of Central Texas musicians.

What began as a small group of Austin musicians looking to swap equipment and share performance opportunities has now grown to a 5,000 network that mobilizes, empowers and advocates for our shared community.

Through the combined efforts and resources of our members, Austin Texas Musicians is committed to elevating industry conditions and empowering professional musicians to lend their voice for change.

Show Up. Speak Up. Be Heard.

If we asked you to think of one of your favorite songs or singers right now, you probably can already hear that song in your head. It’s much harder to imagine a world without the music we love. For musicians, it’s more challenging than ever to make a living, and although Austin, Texas has long been referred to as the “Live Music Capital of the World”, the musicians that built this city can’t afford to live and work here any longer. Our voices are powerful, but we’ve been ignored when it comes to issues that affect us.

Austin Texas Musicians IS musicians working for musicians to bring that voice to city, state and federal policy. And we’ve expanded our services during the pandemic to meet the needs of our 5,000 musician members. Together, we’ve made a real impact:

  • In helping secure the first-ever sustainable public funding for music in the U.S. by mobilizing musician voters

  • In advocating for $11M in federal relief grants to musicians and venues

  • In connecting musicians directly to unemployment benefits and jobs

  • In distributing $50k in paid performances

  • In producing 71 educational webinars and videos

  • In registering 700+ new voters

  • In nurturing equitable leadership within our Musicians Advisory Panel

Our big vision? We want to improve our quality of life, both here in Central Texas and in other music cities around the country. Our template of community advocacy works anywhere musicians are willing to show up and speak up.
